Hi, Kenya is home from where I run a safari business based out of Nairobi . Many decades ago, I rode an XT 500 . Great bike & ultra reliable . Time to get back into the saddle so am enjoying the GS 1200. The riding options within SA are exciting leading to adventures further a field!

After a near 30 year hiatus from motorcycling, a trip through the Karoo on a 650 Dakar in 2006 made me realize what I had been missing. I bought myself an F800GS, followed by a 2007 1200GS and currently the new water-cooled 1200GS. Remarried in Dec '12, our honeymoon, naturally, took us throughout the Klein Karoo on the bike!!

Started riding on a Vespa who would'nt could not afford anything more at the age of 16. Moved onto a light trail bike to get to work, then got married and had a family so bikes do not work to well transporting prams. Did a 4 day Harley Cape Tour plus have ridden my new bike round Joburg for a couple of days - so that is my big bike exposure. I thus regard myself as a novice rider in this regard and intend doing a riding course(s) either at BMW or through the Club in due course so would welcome some advise which is the best option.

Hi I am a long time cycle rider,and after a few year without a cycle have purchased a 1200. To be honest I had a 1150 for a long time and loved it.but they are impossible to find. I hope to share and receive input from all and keep riding.

I am Andre Cornelissen and just bought my GS 1200. It is a '06 model with 40 000 km on it. I switched from a KLR to this. It was now passed on to my son. We reside in a small farming community called Koekenaap on the west coast. It is about 300km from Cape Town. I am a farmer and civil engineer at dep. of Agriculture. Two of my sons now have the KLR 650 and me and my wife have made a few trips on the one to cape town. I am excited for the trips on the GS.
